Often we emphasize our ideals on personal freedom and independence, the idea of surrendering one's will to follow Christ may seem contradictory to the concept of American liberty. However, as believers, we understand that true freedom is found in surrendering our lives to Jesus Christ. It is in this surrender that we discover a deeper level of self-control and confidence that empowers us to navigate the world through the lens of faith.

You Are ALREADY Free!

The Message version of Galatians 5:1 beautifully captures this paradox: "Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you." This verse reminds us that following Christ does not restrict us; instead, it liberates us from the chains of worldly desires and expectations. Through surrendering our will to Him, we open ourselves to His guidance and direction, which ultimately leads to a life of fulfillment and purpose. When we relinquish control of our lives to God, we allow Him to reveal His plans and purposes for us.

Stuck In the Middle? Can’t See the Vision

Jeremiah 29:11 in The Message version affirms this truth: "'I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out - plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.'" Trusting in God's plans for us grants us a sense of freedom and encouragement without limitations on the how and when which allows us to embrace the abundance of His blessings.

🌟Tip:

One powerful way to deepen our relationship with God and align our lives with His will is through prayer journaling. Keeping a journal where we pour out our hearts, dreams, and thoughts to God creates a sacred space for communication and reflection. By writing down our prayers and reflections, we invite God to speak to us and reveal His truths in our lives.

How Do I Start A Prayer Journal?

To start a prayer journal, find a quiet place where you can focus and connect with God. Begin by expressing gratitude for His presence in your life and ask for His guidance as you write. Pour out your thoughts, fears, dreams, and desires onto the pages, knowing that God is listening and responding to your heartfelt prayers. As you continue to journal, pay attention to any recurring themes or messages that emerge through your writing. God often speaks to us in subtle ways, and journaling can help us discern His voice amidst the noise of the world. Reflect on your entries regularly and be open to the ways in which God is shaping and transforming your heart.

Choosing to follow Christ is not a loss of freedom but a gain of true liberty and purpose. Surrendering our desires to Him, He gifts us with self-control, confidence, and the freedom to explore the world through the lens Jesus Christ intends. Through prayer journaling, we can deepen our relationship with God, consecrate our spirits with His will, and accept self-discovery and spiritual growth. If we are able to embrace the freedom found in surrendering to Christ, trusting in His guidance and wisdom for our lives with humility and experiencing the abundant life He offers to all who follow Him.
